Palace works in partnership with a number of educational organisations to offer a programme of films aimed at students from nursery through to higher education. The films are chosen as much for their accessibility to a wide audience of young people as for the richness of their direction and the relevance of the themes they explore.

Our aim is to give students a taste for cinema, not only by introducing them to a film, but also through accompanying educational activities such as discussions, workshops or meetings with a filmmaker.

With this in mind, each screening is introduced by a short workshop film made by young people.

Partners

Ecran Large sur Tableau Noir

Ecran Large sur Tableau Noir (literally Wide Screen on Blackboard) is a film education programme covering the main towns in French-speaking Belgium. Set up in 1982, it is coordinated by the Les Grignoux cultural centre (Liège) in partnership with art house cinemas and cultural centres throughout French-speaking Belgium.

Programme

Every year, thanks to its various partner cinemas, Écran Large sur Tableau Noir offers a programme of films for school screenings that pupils from nursery to upper secondary age can discover with their teachers at a modest price. These films are selected both for their accessibility to a wide audience of children and teenagers and for the richness of their direction and the strength of the themes they explore.

Educational packs

For each film presented in this context, Les Grignoux produces an educational pack with practical ideas for use in the classroom, which is given to teachers free of charge.

JEF

JEF aims to turn young people into film buffs, presenting the best films for pre-school, primary and secondary education in cinemas in Flanders and Brussels. Through interactive teaching materials, workshops and conversations with filmmakers, JEF gets students interested in film.

JEF is a hub for all those professionally involved in youth, film and new media, whether in the classroom or in their free time.
