CONFÉRENCE - Histoire du Technicolor, J.P Verscheure
To coincide with our exhibition ORIGINS OF CINEMA: Magic Lanterns, Cinematograph, and Pioneer Projectors, Palace offers a series of lectures to extend the experience beyond the screen.
LECTURE - The History of Technicolor, J.P. Verscheure:
This lecture aims to introduce and explain the most famous color process in the history of cinema. Developed in 1915 in a two-color version, the two-strip Technicolor process was far from perfect. The Technicolor company knew that a two-color solution was not satisfactory and developed a three-color system in 1932. The three-strip Technicolor process would become the most famous and a global standard. The lecture will be illustrated with numerous excerpts from original 35mm films of world cinema classics, including some very rare Belgian films, and will allow you to understand the unique acquisition techniques using a special three-film camera and the printing of distribution prints using a unique inking process: the imbibition system! The result is of such high quality that it is still difficult to reproduce today. On the Palace screen, you will discover the first Technicolor films in duotone, tritone, and even four-color process, using extremely rare 35mm prints, up to the end of the imbibition process.
