THE KING’S WARDEN
Chang Hang-jun
KR, 116′, 2026, VO KR ST EN/FR/NL
Synopsis : In the 15th century, during the Joseon Dynasty, political tensions reach a climax when the young King Danjong is dethroned by his ambitious uncle and condemned to exile. Banned to Cheongnyeongpo—a remote place isolated by waters in Yeongwol—the dethroned monarch arrives ailing and heartbroken, stripped of his crown and abandoned by his court.
Meanwhile, Eom Heung-do, the energetic head of a impoverished village, learns that hosting an exiled noble can bring royal rations and prosperity to his community. Eager to lift his people out of misery, he officially requests to host an exile. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that his new guest is none other than the young deposed king.
What was meant to be merely a heavy burden gradually transforms into a profound human connection. As Heung-do and the warm-hearted villagers care for the young king to restore his health, they offer him what he never experienced in the ruthless royal palace: genuine affection, dignity, and a true sense of family. But as political threats from the capital draw near, their haven of peace faces an inevitable test.
