MASTERCLASS

One Thursday a month, Palace puts the spotlight on a technical film trade. In partnership with film schools, the Académie André Delvaux, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and mediarte.

In January, Emmanuel De Meulemeester will talk about the job of Production Designer on the film MALDOROR. The masterclass will be preceded by a screening of the film, and the meeting will take place in French.

The art director, also known as chief decorator or production designer, is responsible for designing and supervising all visual and artistic aspects of a film, as well as managing the budget and decorating teams. His work begins with the first drafts of the script, in close collaboration with the director, often materialized by a trend book reflecting the initial aesthetic orientations. Having begun his career in the 1990s working alongside Pierre Renson, he quickly moved on to a series of projects, including TV series and short films. His striking collaboration with director Fabrice Du Welz strengthened his artistic approach, emphasizing the importance of sets to support the film’s message. Trained as a painter, he has found in this cinematic practice a personal and passionate way of developing his art.
