Sun Screens 2024

05.07.2024 > 18.08.2024

Putting together a summer program means first asking ourselves several questions: what story (or stories) do we want to tell? How do we anchor them in the world around us? How do we make sense of it all? Then comes the moment to dream: we gather, exchange ideas, brainstorm, and sketch out plans.

Then reality sets in. The moment we discover that a certain film is unavailable, another has had its release date postponed, and the one holding the whole lineup together is prohibitively expensive.

But as we are used to it, we don’t give up, we rally together, keep searching, and ultimately find a way.

The result is a selection of 54 films that make up our Sun Screens. 54 carefully chosen films across 5 sections—unreleased titles, classics, a wide array of events, re-releases, and unmissable new releases—traversed by two central themes. First, dystopias, which envision the worst possible worlds. Then, seaside resorts which, while exposing the pangs of a breathless world eaten away by futile consumerism, lost landmarks, and solitude, remain at their best places of celebration, pleasure, and togetherness.

Celebration will also be on our agenda as we join forces with the City of Brussels, which will highlight dance during its Plaisirs d’été / Summer Wonders. This gives us the opportunity to present special screenings around hip-hop, disco, and contemporary dance.
