Mr Nobody Against Putin

  • Special event

We are offering a special screening of MR NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN, followed by a film discussion in English moderated by the Impact Production Company Think Film:

Speaker: Danniele Turkov is the Founder and Executive Director of Think-Film Impact Production. Think-Film uses film as a tool to mobilise policymakers to take action that brings lasting change to global situations. This vision today continues to inspire every one of their impact campaigns. Currently, they are leading an international impact campaign around Mr. Nobody Against Putin, highlighting the importance for propaganda-free education for all children. In the past, they have worked on influential campaigns for films such as Navalny, raising awareness and driving change across the globe.

Moderated by Tim Maerschand. Like the main character of the film, he is a teacher himself. He also co-hosts the radio show Kuleshov on Urgent.fm and the podcast Wide Angle for Film Fest Gent. As a volunteer, he is actively involved with the Ghent-based film collectives Ciné Rio and Kuru. As both a film journalist and a teacher, he knows how to bring together the power of cinema and the importance of education in an engaging post-screening discussion.

We don’t want the message of Mr Nobody Against Putin to go unnoticed. Therefore, there will be a discussion about the importance of education, democracy and the fight against disinformation in times of war, after the film. We will shed light on Think Film’s international impact campaign for this film.

This documentary shows educators as frontline defenders against disinformation and propaganda. Hence, the film’s impact campaign will work to ensure every child has the right to education free of propaganda.

“Teachers win wars, not commanders.” We’re flipping Putin’s words to spotlight the vital role of educators in upholding democracy and free expression.

Education is key to our resilience and democratic strength. Pasha is an inspiration to all of us, as an ordinary citizen fighting for free speech.

This impact campaign is supported by New Generation Europe Foundation, Stiftelsen Fritt Ord, Pink & made in copenhagen.

MR NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN

David Borenstein , Pavel Talankin

DK/CZ, 90′, 2025, VO RU/EN ST FR/NL

Synopsis : Primary school teacher Pavel is – as he himself states early on in the film – a ‘nobody’. Indeed, he is not the person you would spontaneously pick as the resistance hero who dares to take on the all-powerful and ruthless Vladimir Putin. And yet this insignificant but extremely likeable primary school teacher in Russia dares to resist the encroaching nationalist propaganda in his own way.
