In the middle of a performance, actress Elisabet Vogler loses her ability to speak. After a stay in a clinic, she settles on the island of Fårö for a while, along with her nurse, Alma. The two young women form a close bond, which helps Alma open up. But this intimate relationship soon begins to unravel
